Water glass (Na₂SiO₃):- Water glass is formed when the sodium carbonate is heated with silica oxide.
Na₂Co₃ + SiO₂ ---------->Na₂SiO₃ Co₂
Uses:-
Silica gel (as moisture absorber)
As Glue
Wall coating in concrete
In soap industries
Jena Glass
Jena glass:- it is a mixture of zinc and barium borosilicates. Jena glass has very low thermal expansion and contraction thus it is used to make laboratory glassware and kitchen glassware. Use of pyrex and Jenna glass almost same.
